scanner and i said no, i think that is the words i use. >> don't touch my junk, the simple word ballooned into a national debate over privacy versus security and a growing number of passengers are voicing displeasure with new security procedures including personal pat downs and new body scanners that see through your clothes and both got a closer inspection today as the head of the nation's airport security got a verbal pat down. tom fitzgerald is live with more. >> reporter: the uprear over the new security procedures shows no sign of letting up tonight. in fact, up on capitol hill, many senators tonight express the concern that there is a growing possibility of a rift developing between the nation's flying passengers and the federal agency designed to protect them since 97. -- since 9/11. with the holiday travel season

weeks away, the head of the transportation security administration faced turbulence on capitol hill. >> have you had that type of pat down that many americans are now protest something. >> you have to be hearing the outcry about the invasive uses of pat downs. >> reporter: john, the head of the tsa, said he understands the discomforts some passengers are feeling over the close contact and pat downs in the private area and using the scanners that can see through colleagues. >> reasonable people can disagree as to the balance between privacy and security. >> reporter: the pat downs argued are given only to a few passengers. the tsa officers were trained, he said, to perform the tasks sensitive to the travelers concerns. >> i expect them to act professionally at all times and treat all passengers with dignity and respect. >> reporter: the new measures are needed, the ts achieve said, especially -- tsa chief said, especially in the wake of

the terror plot aimed at aircraft, like last year's underwear bomber. some senators are expressing concern of the growing disagreement over the invasive nature of the searches and can damage tsas trust with the flying public. >> and there has to be a way, however, for a privacy concern to be addressed. >> may be we're at a point here where there is not a vocal mine otit that people just think you overtipped -- stepped. >> and other senators said in light of recent plots, the tsa adapted its approach to airline security and perhaps it's time for air passengers to adapt as well. >> talking theology or ideology here but protecting the american people. >> and there is a price we pay for that and that is sometimes an uncomfortable price for the american flying public. >> reporter: the bottom line is this. the head of the tsa said that if people feel uncomfortable with the patdown procedures,

they can go through the scanning machine and if they feel uncomfortable, they can ask for the patdown and one way or another, the tsa said that everyone is going screened. >> and have a lot of response. would you rather be subjected to a full body scan or personal pat down? either. katie said. i have nothing to hide. as long as the pat downs and full body scans are professional and not abused, i don't mind and this is how cat responded on our face book page. i prefer neither and i do not want a stranger touching me and much less in private areas nor do i want to be exposed to who knows what in a body scan. breaking news right now. fox 5 learned another person will plead guilty tomorrow and in connection with the death of brian best. he was shot to death in the silver spring home last april and a plea momenty fired in court said lancaster will plead guilty to robbery and the use of a handgun in commission of a

crime. four suspects know arrested and lancaster would be the second to answer a guilty plea. club owners want their liquor license back and that has been closed. the alcohol and beverage control board refused to re- enstate it for the moment. meanwhile, mohammad's friends and supporters turned out in large numbers to continue the push for justice. >> reporter: mohammad's family and friends are furious that charges were dropped against the five club employees who were initially arrested. witnesses said they chased mohammad and beat and stomped him after he threw a brick through a window when he was turned away from the club. the club's liquor license was yanked and uncertain when or if it will be reissued. >> and we want to keep that place closed. >> reporter: emotional and angry. supporters of ali mohammad refused to be ignored, turning out in full force.

demanding justice. >> the message -- to folks out there is that we don't count. >> reporter: the demonstrators packed the abc hearing room to overflowing. club owners and their representatives argued that their people were making a citizens arrest. and the chairman said the board takes it seriously when security people leave an establishment and put their hands on folks. >> and to open it without full knowledge would be unwise. >> it's my recommendation to the board that we deny the motion that we continue the summary suspension. >> reporter: the vote was unanimous to take a closer look at a new club security plan. >> mr. brooks, i agree. >> reporter: we tried to get reaction from club owners. >> excuse me. >> are you one of the club owners? >> she doesn't look like anyone. >> reporter: outside on u street, backers not satisfied yet. >> and we want an autopsy report and an investigation

finalized because justice delay side justice denied. justice delay side justice denied. >> during the hearing, the club representative told the board under the terms of a new security plan, the security staff wouldn't have the right to detain people, they wouldn't do it anymore. the abc board is going to review the plan and hold another hearing on december 1st. and this is that matter. what about the investigation into the death? >> there is an active investigation. when the charges against the five club employees were dropped, there was a missing piece to the puzzle. the medical examiner's office had not ruled officially on the cause of death and that could take 60 to 90 days. the u.s. attorney has called the death tragic and said that it needs -- he said demands a careful comprehensive investigation, brian. >> and we'll be watching. the corruption probe that we're watching and continues to unfold. three suspects are back in

court and including a police officer charged with drug trafficking. and that officer used his badge and gun armed to protect bad guys. sherri ly, what do you know? >> reporter: well, brian, the drug case against the police officer is only loosely linked to that craig probe in prince george -- that corruption probe in prince georges county. the officer started by getting involved in the trafficking of the contraband cigarettes and later, got involved in drug running on his own and given the mix of drugs and gun, the drug said that is a danger to the community and the prosecutor said it was part of the operation in which bribes were paid to public officials. the job was to drive the contraband to virginia and maryland and to new york and new jersey and use the police powers if anyone stopped them.

the authorities say they then discovered he was using the cigarette shipments to transport cocaine and on wiretaps, the prosecutor said it's her talking about buying a 50 caliber dessert eagle handgun like this and that is the same kind of gun that investigators say was found in a search of that home. his case has been unfairly tainted in prince georges county and that arrest of jack johnson and he was suspended from the police department three months ago and told he was under investigation. it's the third time that he was suspended. two other suspects were in court today and one on that drug indictment. his detention hearing was postponed. a second suspect in the corruption probe and that appeared in court, he was released, his wife and is on home detention. that is the latest here.

into an alexandrea facility. i heard about the base realignment and closure, right? moving 6400 people. the problem here, the d.o.d. skipped the required environmental impact study and that is a concern. the investigation is in response to congressman jim moran who promised to have it examined. pushing back against a hard- hitting recommendation on how to keep it safe. rework the board of directors, from a blue-ribbon panel to metro's safety problems. the panel consists, suggests, rather, the board consists of 12 members instead of 8, three representatives from each region instead of two, congressman moran believes that restructuring the board would lead to a lack of balance and regional representation and said that northern virginia taxpayers provide 70% of the revenue to the system and the

cars crushed the damage was severe in one spot, it blew a hole in a brick and mortar building and to the fox 5 weather center and this is amazing. >> i am always amazed to so what wind can do. you see different things and you scratch your head sometimes and figure how did that do that? look at the pictures out there and this is the mail processing facility in northeast. and you're looking at the power of last night's storm. look at that. look at the windows shattered out by the wind and i would say 100 vehicles down there and that -- with windows completely blown out, glasses everywhere and that is a massive hole that you saw in the building there and the cinder blocks are scattered around. black is everywhere and you wonder, part of that is projectiles that get thrown up and caught in the wind and do the damage there and this is all the cinder blocks and stacked up, piles in the ground. >> as you can see in the back, the wind apparently tunneled

through the building and came out here and pushed all the brick and mortar out on to the parking lot. approximately 193 employees were in this facility during this time. all were evacuated for about a half hour. two had minor injuries. they were sent to providence hospital and released and this is what we're dealing with today. all mail delivery is on time and we have worked with our sister stations in baltimore, southern maryland and in virginia to replace our vehicles and get our mail out. >> is the mail lost in all of this? >> no, no mail was lost. >> they manage to get the male out, don't they? and we had wind gusts at national at 1:00 this morning and 54 miles per hour and that was a straight up-and-down north and south squaw line moving through -- squall line moving through and that may have created a tornado, brian, last night. >> all right, thanks, gary.

we were talking about this last night. >> right. >> at 11:15 and standing here and you said this is going to income through at 1, 2 in the morning. >> the models nailed that and on the baltimore storm, too, brian. >> yeah. >> the national weather service is looking to so if a tornado touched down in baltimore. the area they're looking sat around parkville in northeastern baltimore. >> yup. >> tremendous damage up there and we know they had 80 miles an hour winds and the complete survey will come out tomorrow. last night, wonder concerned and had that tarped ao watch through central virginia and want to show you what the model was telling us what was going to occur last night. >> warm front is coming through tonight and that is inspiring. a few showers and the stronger storms and there is that tornado watch. the whole front has to come through and that is why there is another round of showers and the thunderstorms to go with the gusty winds. at 10:00, watching the lines coming up is doing a nice job with that and pausing this at 1 in the morning. that is when we might get our last line going on through. >> and that is what happened,

that came through between 1 and 2 and obviously, no one expected this kind of tremendous damage, even though we were outlooked for the possibility of severe storms and what we need to take away from this is any time there is an outlook for severe weather in our region and these are late november thunderstorms. >> yeah. >> severe weather can happen and that is difficult to know when it's going to happen. obviously, 80 miles per hour winds in baltimore and nobody was anticipating that to happen. and with that property damage, a lot of power. >> and had a rumble of thunder and nothing terrible. and the winds were a factor all day. the winds are getting better and it was a powerful storm that found a lot of contrast and you may have noticed the very warm air we had last night at 11:00. the temperature went up to 64 degrees and we knew that we were in for a night of gusty winds. i want you to see, as gary mentioned, the reagan national highest wind gusts reported at 54 miles an hour. dulles at 40 and bwi marshal 46

and some reports in baltimore of 80 miles an hour winds with when that storm was coming through and it's still being investigated, whether it was a tornado or straight-line wind damage and that is coming out tomorrow. it's being debated, by the way. mitchellville in prince georges county, a gust of 46 and frostburg, maryland. pushing 50 miles an hour gust and glen allen in montgomery county, 47 miles an hour and where are the gusts now? down to give miles an hour and still significant and they will get better through the night and those winds are going to be lightening up a bit. temperaturewise, we're at 55 degrees now and 49 for hagerstown. most places still in the 40s. 45 for monasses. the cool spot and cool will be the theme tonight. unlike last night, when it was warm and wind, the winds go light. the air is incredibly dry and that is getting warm tonight. the max hd satellite and radar, showing you the clouds breaking up in our storm system that are slashing off here and g the nor united states and that is out

of the picture. a much weaker system is going income through and we're going to have a mix of clouds and sun. the clear skies to take us through part of the evening. at 8 in the morning, a thin deck of clouds might be coming on through and they will thicken and maybe we'll have brightening of the skies in the afternoon. notice the snow that they're getting in the mountains. a cooler day with that mix of clouds and sun and high pressure building in for the weekend and things are looking good. not warm but looking good and sunny, temperatures getting up to 60 and winds die down for us, watch for 30s in the suburbs, 43 degrees in the district and tomorrow, clouds, some sun and definitely on the cool side at 56 and this is not going to be windy. we had on through the weekend and looking good, looking settled and this is the weekend before thanksgiving. we're going to keep a close eye on what is going on happen thanksgiving week. lots of model guidance hint at a big storm for the u.s. and -- hinting at a big storm for the u.s. and will create travel problems. we'll give you a preview at 10.
